Job Summary
To assist with basic research on projects whose purpose is to evaluate the effectiveness of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) on the prevention of depressive relapse in the workplace.
Organizational Status
This position reports firstly to the principle investigator, and as required, the lab coordinator.
Work Performed
· organizing and scheduling team meetings · search articles for senior researchers to evaluate; · participant recruitment and consent processes; · data collection and entry; · coordination of MBCT sessions and MBCT therapists; · acting as a liaison between the research team and stake holders; · other related duties including routine support for the research team. This position will require travelling within Metro Vancouver to support the research initiatives.

This position reports firstly to the principle investigator, and as required, the lab coordinator.

The person needs to be reliable and collaborative. Any errors in data recording and entry, breaches in confidentiality will tarnish the project and lab's reputations and could lead to loss of data and damage to the experiments. Professionalism is of utmost importance.
Qualifications
High School graduation. University degree in Psychology or a related field preferred. 2 years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with recruitment, data collection, research protocols and with consent and assent procedures. Clinical experience interviewing persons with mental health problems is essential and experience in administering structured interviews (e.g. SCID-IV) an asset. Ability to effectively use word processing, spreadsheet, internet and electronic mail applications. Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to communicate effectively in writing. Ability to gather, record, and organize information. Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to travel around the Metro Vancouver area and to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, an asset.

Job Summary
The Research Assistant will be responsible for providing financial, and research administrative support to the Principal Investigators, Research Coordinator and Assistants at the Centre for Rural Health Research, Rural Maternity Care Research team.
Organizational Status
The Rural Maternity Care Research team includes academic and community-based researchers, policy makers, administrators and other key stakeholders working together to achieve a comprehensive understanding of rural maternity care services in British Columbia. The research program and team are funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and is institutionally supported through the University of British Columbia's Department of Family Practice and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. The core research team is located in Vancouver, however the investigators are spread across British Columbia and collaborations exist with researchers and health care practitioners in other Canadian provinces and territories and international jurisdictions. The goal of the Rural Maternity Care Research Team is to carry out research that evaluates the challenges facing the provision of rural maternity care in B.C. from multiple disciplinary and professional perspectives. This goal is based on the recognition that the erosion of rural maternity care services in B.C. is the product of complex, inter-related influences and the implications of this erosion are multi-faceted. The research team brings together perspectives from family practice, sociology, geography, economics, epidemiology, health system and policy analysis, as well as from health care providers and administrators working in and with rural B.C. communities. The Rural Maternity Care Research team is comprised of 2 principal investigators, 1 research coordinator, 1 writing support and editing assistant and 3 research assistants. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing support to the research team under the direction and supervision of the Research Coordinator.
Work Performed
Research Assistant duties include: · Maintain financial records and process expenses · Facilitating the signing of research grants; · General data entry and typing; · Ordering and stocking supplies, · Assisting with research ethics approval; · Updating databases and research website; · Maintaining Refworks database and research contacts database; · Assisting with referencing for journal publications and grants; · Liaising with UBC Finance, UBC Family Practice, vendors and suppliers; · Assisting with literature reviews; · Proofreading and formatting newsletters and correspondence; and, · Performing other related duties.
Supervision Received
The Principal Investigators and Research Coordinator will provide guidance and supervision to the Administrative Assistant.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Coordinator will work closely with the Research Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant will not be expected to make decisions regarding budget expenditures.
Qualifications
High School graduation. University degree in a related field preferred. 2 years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with finances and data management. Experience working in a research environment with experience in financial administration of University research grants or CIHR research grants an asset. Knowledge of the University of British Columbia Financial systems, including Smart forms, FMS, and P-card an asset. Ability to effectively use Word, Excel, and Refworks. Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to communicate effectively in writing. Ability to gather, record, and organize information. Ability to perform word processing at 50 words per minute and to operate a normal range of office equipment. Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to exercise sound judgment. Ability to exercise confidentiality and initiative. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a team environment.
