Scientist, Drug Design & Synthesis - Centre for Drug Research & Development

The Centre for Drug Research and Development is a ground-breaking initiative to bring together researchers, institutions and industry to bridge the gap between discovery research and the successful development of new medicines. Located on the UBC Campus, CDRD is a not-for-profit organization developing a shared academic research infrastructure to enable BC researchers in universities and hospitals to focus and amplify their drug discovery and development efforts.
CDRD provides BC researchers with access to know-how, equipment and facilities and trains highly qualified personnel in drug discovery and development.
Summary
Reporting to the Manager, SFU DRI, the Scientist, Drug Design and Synthesis will play a key role in carrying out synthetic chemistry and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the synthetic Lab.
Responsibilities
Performs synthetic chemistry in support CDRD projects at discovery stages (typically mg to 10g scale).
Assists in the coordination of the day to day operations of drug design labs.
Conducts analysis of drug design data.
Prepares reports and technical presentations.
Prepares, reviews and updates laboratory procedures as required.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
A PhD in chemical sciences with a minimum of 2 years of directly related multi-step synthetic organic postdoctoral experience in an academic or an Industrial setting
Experience with synthetic organic chemistry in a medicinal chemistry or process development chemistry environment and ability to carry out multi-step synthetic procedures within defined timelines.
Ability to work on more than one project at a time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a dynamic and fast-paced research organization
