Having commenced operations in 2006, Aquinox Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a privately-held pharmaceutical company developing targeted small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory disease. The Company has a strong intellectual property portfolio and library of pre-clinical drug candidates that target a unique biochemical enzyme called "SHIP" (SH2-containing inositol phosphatase) which regulates the PI3 kinase (PI3K) pathway. Outstanding technology coupled with an exceptional management team and a recently completed US $14.5 million financing make it a very exciting time to seize this wonderful opportunity.
We are currently seeking an experienced NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellow in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and synthesis of novel pharmacologically active compounds using organic synthetic techniques.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
Design and execute scientific experiments.
Perform multi-step synthesis, compound purification and structural characterization.
Optimize lead compounds and synthetic routes.
Perform scale-up of intermediates and final target molecules.
Maintain an R&D laboratory notebook according to established guidelines.
Data reduction and presentation.
To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications and experience:
Recent completion or completion within the next 2 months, of a PhD in Organic Chemistry or related field.
Understanding of multi step organic chemistry including protecting group strategies.
Milligram- and gram-scale synthesis using air and light sensitive reagents.
Experience with chromatographic methods for the purification of compounds.
Ability to use spectroscopic techniques including NMR, MS, etc. and spectral interpretation to assign/confirm chemical structure.
Computer proficiency including knowledge of ChemDraw.
Ability to use the chemical literature and computer searching techniques to plan, solve and execute on the synthesis of target compounds.
Effective communication skills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Candidates must be eligible for NSERC Post-Doctoral Industrial R&D Fellowships.
