Job Summary
Assisting with sample collection and analysis in a research study evaluating the risk of healthcare workers' exposure to hazardous agents (cytotoxic drugs).
Organizational Status
Will work with members of the research team to achieve project goals. Will interact with various departments in hospitals to recruit subjects and collect samples. Will liaise with and provide assistance to members of the hospital's occupational health and safety department.
Work Performed
- Conducting on-site observations to identify exposure potential to cytotoxic drugs - Interacting with subjects (healthcare workers) to promote study and obtain consent - Handling and collecting surface wipes, hand wipes as well as urine samples to assess contamination and occupational exposure levels - Administering questionnaires to understand nature of study population - Maintaining electronic database of collected samples - Organizing and filing paperwork related to the study - Some laboratory work - Other possible responsibilities include assisting the workplace health and safety departments of the respective health authorities where the study will be conducted.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
- Candidate will need to coordinate site visits based on own schedule as well as that of stakeholders - Candidate will need to decide which healthcare workers are potential subjects based on criteria established by Principal Investigator - Candidate will need to determine which surfaces/objects are considered contaminated based on criteria established by Principal Investigator
Qualifications
High School graduation. . 2 years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working in healthcare would be ideal. Previous experience working in a chemistry laboratory would be an asset. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner. Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve.
