Work Performed Duties include: training and supporting Research Assistant T1 positions; Assisting Research Assistant T3 Staff; Maintaining general care and husbandry of laboratory mice and rats; Animal handling, feeding, watering and daily health monitoring of animals; Checking for plugs and weaning young; Daily census recording; Maintaining records; Shipping and receiving of animals; General housekeeping, including waste disposal; Maintaining inventory; assisting in sample collection; Recognizing and reporting concerns involving the animals, animal rooms, and the facility in general; Participating in continuing education program; Answering emergency calls as required; And performing other related duties. The position will be in a state of the art research facility with all required safety precautions already in place. The position requires exposure to animals.
Supervision Received The incumbent will be closely supervised until it is apparent the individual can perform the tasks independently.
Supervision Given Position works in conjunction with other animal technicians and will not be supervising any other staff. The incumbent may be asked to teach a procedure or a method known to them to another individual. Once the procedure or method is performed correctly the supervisory role of the incumbent would terminate. This role would be limited to short periods of time.

Job Summary Duties include: making solutions, tracking and ordering lab supplies and making electrodes. The current study investigates the activity of cortical neurons during various behaviors.
Organizational Status The research assistant reports to the postdoctoral fellow who reports to the principal investigator, Dr Jeremy Seamans.
Work Performed Making solutions . Tracking lab supplies. Making electrodes under supervision. Lab space in Dr. Seaman's lab in the BRC.
Supervision Received Works under the direct supervision of a post-doctoral fellow in the lab.

Consequence of Error/Judgement The person needs to be careful and good with their hands in order to work with the small micro-wire recording arrays.
Qualifications High school graduation (an undergraduate degree in psychology or another mental health related field is preferred). Minimum one year of related experience. Consequence of Error/Judgement This person must be willing to pay attention to details, be aware of pitfalls and willing to repeat tasks Most of the procedures will require following a protocol already in place, however there is room for innovative thinking to improve upon existing protocols and provide input into the direction of the project. Incorrect decisions could result in deterioration of animal health and/ or disruption or ruination of a research study.
Qualifications High School graduation. AHT or VT degree preferred. CALAS Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT) level certification preferred. 2 years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum two years of related experience in an animal research facility, hospital environment, or veterinary clinic. Ability to effectively use computer software. Ability to follow established guidelines and protocols, and a familiarity with the Canadian Council on Animal Care guidelines. Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 kg. Job Summary Part-time (3-5 hours per week), temporary (16-20 months), grant-funded position to assist in a randomized clinical trial examining the efficacy/effectiveness of early cognitive-behavioural intervention for preventing persistent post-concussion syndrome.
Organizational Status The successful candidate will work closely with Alice Rose (co-investigator and coordinator of the Early Response Brain Injury Service at GF Strong) and report to Dr. Noah Silverberg (principal investigator).
Work Performed o Screening participants for eligibility over the telephone by asking standardized questions. o Scheduling clinic visits with research participants. o Obtaining informed consent to participate in research. o Administering baseline and outcome assessment batteries, which include self-report questionnaires and a semi-structured interview protocol. o Entering data into a statistical software package (SPSS). o Performing other research-related duties (e.g., photocopying, managing references, etc.) The work will be done at offices within GF Strong Rehab Centre, at 4255 Laurel St., Vancouver, BC.
Supervision Received The successful candidate will receive training in the administration of a semi-structured interview (the MINI Neuropsychiatric Interview) and will receive ongoing supervision from a registered psychologist.

Consequence of Error/Judgement The successful candidate will be required to exercise sound judgment in (a) obtained informed consent, (b) administering a semi-structured interview, and (b) identifying clinically urgent situations (e.g., endorsed suicidality on a questionnaire), i.e., when to notify one of the investigators for follow-up. Independent decision-making requirements are minimal to moderate. Work will be reviewed by the study investigators.
Qualifications High school graduation with two years of relevant experience. University degree in a health service/social science field is preferred. Scheduling · This involves telephoning participants and arranging appointments for clinic or home visit. May involve amalgamating visits for several studies into one schedule. Telephone follow-up · Performs phone follow-ups collecting post-immunization reaction data and necessary documentation. Requires asking pre-set questions about solicited and unsolicited information following immunization but it requires complete understanding of protocol and judgement. Brings to the attention of the coordinator any reactions, side effects, or unusual circumstances. Clinic Attendant · Conducts a variety of tasks in off site clinics such as receptionist, data collector, crowd control or other related duties as deemed necessary in the course of conducting a clinical trial. May work in an office shared with other VEC staff. The work encourages frequent moving around and occasional lifting of boxes up to 10kg. Wet or dry laboratory setting, possibly working with materials which require specific biohazard safety course (environment may require procedures utilising biohazardous materials). Will work at offsite clinics and be available to conduct evening telephone-related work. Study tracking · Alters variables on the computer tracking program under the supervision of the coordinator. Consequence of Error/Judgement
Duties are performed according to operating procedures and VEC policies. Decisions are made for the tasks at hand as related to the job. Non-routine decisions are made with consultation of the project coordinator. Make basic routine decisions. Consequences of error could result in delays, possible loss of funding, or impact the integrity of a study.
Qualifications
High School Graduate with additional training of a technical nature in health care or sciences (BSc. is preferred). Minimum two years experience in clinical trials with preference for the vaccine field and understanding of vaccines is expected from the individual. The Sheahan-MDRU Literature Service publishes two monthly newsletters containing bibliographic listings of new technical literature in metals and diamonds. The main task of the Researcher includes scanning and compiling the latest academic literature and technical resources of relevance to mineral exploration geologists for presentation in the newsletters. Awareness of special publications, workshops and conference proceedings volumes, geological survey reports, society newsletters, industry magazines, academic research papers, technical industry news, books, as well as links to digital resources and upcoming geoscience events is essential. Newsletters and communications are distributed globally to geoscientists at >30 exploration companies.
Organizational Status
The Researcher operates with direct supervision from the Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU) CFO/Exec Coordinator.
Work Performed
Compiles, formats, and distributes monthly electronic economic geology newsletters containing bibliographic listings of newly published literature and other resources of relevance to mineral exploration geologists in metals and gems; Provides literature searches and hard-copy acquisition of publications for research purposes by library members; Maintains awareness of and communications with current trends and demands within the diamond and metals industry to understand and anticipate their interests and needs; Extracts bibliographic data from various sources to provide content for newsletters and literature searches and enters the references into MS Excel spreadsheet; Formats references into a predetermined newsletter format using the merge function in MS Word; Prepares a comprehensive, 1.5 years in advance, list of economic geology and diamond/kimberlite conferences around the world; Fills literature search requests from clients, i.e. finding newsletter referenced papers, preparing an excel file order sheet, prepare articles for distribution, mail out, and prepare invoices; Manages a student to help with finding articles as required; Markets and establishes new clients Formats references into a predetermined MS Excel format for uploading (by an EOS computer staff member) to the website Maintains a physical binder of all of the newsletters Works with the MDRU CFO/Exec Coordinator to maintain a current list of subscribers, email contacts, and invoicing history.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The literature service is a financially independent unit within the Mineral Deposit Research Unit. Failure to maintain the reliable distribution of information and to promptly respond to client requests will result in loss of subscription use, clients and financial support.

High School graduation. Degree in Geology preferred. 2 years relevant experience. Experience with the mineral exploration industry preferred. Ability to perform research. Ability to effectively use Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel at an intermediate level. Ability to effectively use information technology.
