A full-time Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Anthony R.E. Sinclair in the Department of Zoology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada.
The successful candidate will organize a research program in Serengeti, Tanzania, guide and train Tanzanian research technicians, analyze long term data on plant and animal communities, and coordinate the scientific publication of results involving several groups at different universities.
Applicants are required to hold a PhD in Plant ecology and several years of postdoctoral training with emphasis on African ecosystems in savanna areas, especially East Africa. Knowledge of plant community statistical analyses and Geographic Information Systems is required, and an understanding of plant-animal interactions is strongly preferred. Experience with local village communities is preferred. Excellent scientific writing skills are also essential.
The position is grant supported for one year with the possibility of an extension contingent on budgetary approval and continued grant funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
