The BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. It provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia by working with community partners to deliver a range of cancer services, including prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates four regional cancer centres in the Fraser Valley, Kelowna, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, with a fifth centre that opened in Abbotsford in summer 2008 and a sixth centre scheduled to open in Prince George in 2012. The BC Cancer Research Centre conducts research into the causes and cures for cancer.

As a highly organized and driven member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Fraser Valley Centre, you will demonstrate a team-building attitude in supporting and participating in the Committee, and supporting the BC Cancer Agency as a translation knowledge generating organization. Enhancing clinical and interdisciplinary research, you will search for unique funding opportunities, link interested researchers with appropriate granting agencies, and facilitate ethics approval processes and related submission requirements. Overseeing the administration of grant proposal submissions, you will develop calls for proposals and grant proposal submissions, and create a funding agency database. You will also work with Principal Investigators on meeting grand deadlines. As the point person on proposal writing and submissions, you will facilitate a team approach in coordinating interdisciplinary dialogue and input into grants, and providing support and information on consent forms and other related documents and procedures. Clinical and academic staff will look to you to organize learning activities for developing grantsmanship skills. Building strong links, you will facilitate research guest lecture sessions, and initiate and establish relationships with national and international research administration organizations.
You have an undergradauate degree in a health related or administration field, and three to five years' experience working in health research environment, specifically in the preparation of grant applications. As well, you have a good networking track record, and have knowledge of and experience with advanced research principles. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Demonstrating exceptional written and verbal communication skills, you manage well in a multi-task environment and have a strong attention to detail. Proficient with computers, you know how to effectively use a wide variety of software and have experience with the Internet and search engines. The ideal candidate has knowledge of the provincial health care system and organization of granting agencies, and experience preparing and monitoring grant and project budgets.
