Communications Co-ordinator in Marine Conservation

Project Seahorse (www.projectseahorse.org) is an international marine
conservation team based out of the University of British Columbia in
Vancouver, Canada (www.ubc.ca). We seek a communications co-ordinator to
develop and implement a strategic communications plan. This person will
identify and promote Project Seahorse stories and achievements – and marine
conservation in general - through a wide variety of outputs. S/he will be
also responsible for media relations and outreach, facilitating
communications outside and within the team, producing popular articles,
supporting technical writing, and ensuring that the website is an effective
communications tool for international audiences. This person will be a
senior member of the Project Seahorse team, reporting to the Director, and
will have some supervisory responsibilities.

The ideal Communications Co-ordinator will have qualifications and extensive
experience in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing. We
seek superior writing, editing, and time management skills and a record of
effective and rapid communication in conventional and electronic media.
Former experience as a journalist would be an asset. We also seek a
demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, innovation, research,
analysis, and project co-ordination. Initiative and integrity are vital, as
are a demonstrated interest in conservation and resource management and an
ability to work to deadlines and manage a variety of projects concurrently.
International experience is an advantage.

This full-time position will initially be appointed for one year but funding
is available for a further four years. It will be based at the University of
